When you think of all the wars taking place around the world... they all seem to stem from our differences and our inability or unwillingness to understand one another. However, "the Earth is what we all have in common."-Wenell Barry. You would think, therefore, that we should be able to unite-not as a city, state or country-but as inhabitants of the earth, to improve the quality and condition of our home.
I haven't decided what I'm going to do yet, but I hold myself accountable for our environment and it's sustainability in the future.
If you'd like to be involved, but are perplexed as to what you should do, here are some ideas:
Plant a tree
A great way to restore some eco-sanity to our environment is to plant a tree; a flower, or any other type of shrub will also suffice. Instead of taking from our environment, on Earth Day, make an addition.
It's great if you're already in the habit, but for some, recycling can be inconvenient and time consuming. Make the effort, and continue to do so. We can save so many materials, use less energy, and release less toxins into our air by simply recycling our goods!
-Americans throw away enough aluminum every 3 months to rebuild our entire commercial air fleet.
-Americans throw away enough soda bottles annually to circle the earth 4 times.
....put them to use, again!
